Why electrolysis?
Safe: electrolysis has been used successfully since 1875.
Effective: for all hair colours, hair textures, and skin tones (including tattoos).
Versatile: can be used to treat any visible region of the body.
We specialize in permanent hair removal and only offer electrolysis.
How does electrolysis work?
During treatment, a minuscule, sterile filament is inserted into the hair follicle. An ultra-rapid current is applied and then the filament and hair are removed.
Because hairs are removed during treatment, you will always leave with less hair than you arrived with.
Results are progressive; with continued treatments, hair growth is weakened until the follicle is permanently destroyed. Yes permanently!
How does electrolysis compare to laser/IPL?
These treatments are complimentary.
Electrolysis provides hair removal. Laser/IPL provide hair reduction.
Electrolysis provides permanent results. Laser/IPL require ongoing treatment.
Electrolysis is equally effective on all hair colours, hair textures, and skin tones. Laser/IPL treatment is not effective on light hair (white, grey, red, etc) and not safe on dark skin or tattoos.
Electrolysis has fewer risks and side effects than laser/IPL.
Electrolysis treatment is delivered one follicle at a time. Laser/IPL treatments are delivered in patches.
Who should consider electrolysis?
If you have unwanted hair you wish to remove permanently.
If you are experiencing hormonal hair growth (PCOS, menopause, etc).
If you are taking a medication that stimulates hair growth as a side effect (corticosteroids, hormones, etc).
If you have hair growth that conflicts with your gender identity and/or expression and you wish to remove it.
If you require permanent hair removal prior to surgery (gender affirmation, skin graft, etc).
If you are paying for ongoing temporary hair removal treatments.
If you have skin that is sensitive to temporary removal methods (ingrown hairs, folliculitis, razor burn, etc).
If you are not a candidate for laser/IPL.
If you have achieved laser/IPL reduction and want the remaining hairs removed permanently!
How many treatments will I need?
At your free consultation, we will discuss your treatment schedule and approximate timeline after learning more about you.
Many factors impact hair growth: the endocrine system, genetics, medications, age, nutrient absorption, follicle vascularization, and the nervous system. Therefore, it is impossible to predict the precise number of treatments or the exact amount of time required to achieve your desired result.
What does electrolysis feel like?
Most people say it feels like a tiny pinch, itch, tickle, or sting.
During your free consultation you will receive a patch test to see what it feels like (barring any contraindications).
Some regions of the body are more sensitive than others and some days we are more sensitive than others. Your electrologist can make adjustments to ensure you are comfortable.
How will my skin react?
Sensitive skin may experience a warm, itching, tingling sensation, redness, and light swelling. This usually disappears within a few hours, but can last a few days.
The lower extremities may develop tiny crusts or scabs at the openings of treated follicles (this rarely occurs on the face).
When is electrolysis not recommended?
Early pregnancy – treatments can be safely performed after 3 months with physician approval
Early puberty – minors must have guardian consent and attendance at every appointment
Major heart problems or pacemaker
Hemophilia
Arteritis
Accutane – taken in the last 12 months
Radiation or chemotherapy – in the last 12 months
Physician approval may be required in additional circumstances prior to treatment
What can I expect at the consultation?
A consultation is required prior to commencing treatment.
You will be asked what body region(s) you would like treated. We don’t make assumptions, so please be specific! Please arrive clean and prepared to show this region for a skin and hair exam.
We will ask about your treatment goals: reduction, removal, reshape, etc.
We will collect relevant health information to assess your suitability for treatment.
Barring any contraindications, we will perform a test treatment on several hairs so that you can experience the feeling of electrolysis and see how your skin reacts before your first appointment. Please have at least a few millimetres of growth.
